How to use it

From pasted script to steady eye contact.

The prompter fills the screen, scrolls at a steady speed and gets out of your way. Scroll with your mouse, trackpad or finger at any time to catch up or go back.

Four steps

  1. Add your script

Paste it, type it or open a .txt file. Blank lines become natural pauses.

  2. Set the speed

Pick a words-per-minute pace. The estimate under the script shows how long it will run.

  3. Place the screen near the lens

Put the text as close to your camera as you can, and narrow the line width so your eyes travel less.

  4. Start and record

Press Start prompter, start your camera, and read the line inside the guide band.

Setups that work

Three ways to use a browser teleprompter.

Laptop webcam

Open the prompter in a narrow browser window and drag it to the top of the screen, right under the webcam. Turn the text size down so your eyes barely move.

Second phone or tablet

Run the prompter on a tablet and place it directly below the camera or phone you record with. Line the guide band up with the lens.

Beam-splitter rig

Turn on Mirror text and lay the screen under the glass. The camera looks straight through while you read the reflection. Build a simple rig.

FAQ

Questions about the online teleprompter.

Is this teleprompter really free?

Yes. There is no account, no trial and no watermark, because the prompter does not record anything. You record with your own camera or app while it scrolls.

Is my script uploaded anywhere?

No. The script and your settings are stored in your browser's local storage on this device so they are still here next time. Use Clear to remove the script. See our privacy notice.

What speed should I set?

Start around 130 to 150 words per minute and adjust while you rehearse. Slow down for teaching or technical content; speed up for short, energetic clips. Our guide to teleprompter speed explains how to find your own pace, and the speech time calculator can measure it.

Does it work on a phone or tablet?

Yes, in any modern mobile browser. Where the browser allows it, the screen stays awake while the script is playing. Drag with your finger to scroll by hand.

Can I record video with it?

This page only shows the script. To read and record on the same phone, with the script right under the lens, use Simply, our teleprompter and camera app for Android.

Why is there a mirror option?

A beam-splitter teleprompter reflects the screen in a sheet of glass in front of the lens, and the reflection flips the text. Mirroring it first makes the reflection read normally.
